OEM Brake Calipers
Brake calipers squeeze the brake pads against the rotor to slow down your vehicle. Over time, calipers can seize, leak, or wear out due to heat and constant pressure. These factors lead to uneven braking or even total brake failure, if left unchecked.
How to Replace Worn Brake Calipers
For your Ford F-150, keeping your brake calipers in good condition is crucial, especially if you tow, haul, or frequently stop under heavy loads. Need help replacing brake calipers? Here's how.
Replacing Brake Calipers in Your Ford F-150
1. Lift and Secure Your Vehicle
Use a jack and jack stands to safely lift your F-150, ensuring all wheels are fully supported before starting work.
2. Remove the Wheel and Brake Assembly
Take off the wheel, then unbolt the brake caliper from the bracket and rotor, keeping the brake line attached if you're just inspecting.
3. Disconnect the Brake Line
Carefully unscrew the brake hose from the caliper and plug it to avoid brake fluid leaking out onto your garage floor.
4. Install the New Caliper
Mount the new caliper in place, making sure to properly torque the bolts and reconnect the brake line securely to avoid leaks.
5. Bleed the Brake System
After installation, bleed the brakes to remove any air trapped in the lines so your pedal stays firm and responsive.
Other Brake Parts to Check
When replacing calipers, also inspect your brake rotors. Worn rotors can cause vibration or reduce the effectiveness of your new calipers. Want help picking the right parts? Contact us for expert support.
